Historical Photo of the Month - April 2008
Voyager Illustration
Photograph Number 260-1335
This illustration was created in preparation for the Voyager II encounter with Saturn in August 1981. It was most likely intended for a presentation to visitors or a press conference, to help people visualize the great quantity of data coming from the Voyager spacecraft and how it would be converted into useful information. In 1981 personal computers were not yet widely used, the Internet was in its infancy, and hard copy books were still the most common method for transmitting information.
