Administration Building in 1947
Photograph Number JB-307
In 1947, building 67 housed the JPL Administration and Engineering Offices. This included the Solid Propellants Section, Library, Reports, Personnel, the central files, mail room, telephone switchboard, a conference room, lunch room and small kitchen.
JPL Director Louis Dunn had a 21'x12' office on the second floor. His Administrator, secretaries, and three of his four Division Chiefs (comparable to "Director for") were just down the hall.
In the late 1940s, JPL covered only 61 acres, compared to about 176 today. The perimeter fence was just across the street from building 67, ending at the guard gate, with parking on the other side. The parking area in the foreground was replaced by building 111 in 1950 and building 230 in 1963. Building 67 still stands, and is now used by the Advanced Technologies Group, Task Order Administration Section, and Proposal Center. Dozens of other buildings can now be seen behind building 67.
