From 1975 to 1977, students in Industrial Studies at California State University, Los Angeles, worked on constructing ten 1/10 scale models of the Mariner Jupiter Saturn 1977 (Voyager) spacecraft for JPL. The first model was delivered in March 1977. John Casani, Project Manager, and Ed Stone, Project Scientist, met with student Ruben Fernandez and Professor Courtland Doan to accept the spacecraft model.
One model was to be displayed in JPL's von Kármán auditorium, another was to be used at the JPL press site for creating television animations, others would be used by Public Affairs speakers when giving lectures, and one would be presented to each of the NASA Deep Space Centers. To learn more about these models and the story behind them, see the Universe article entitled Student MJS Project Provides "Kid Brother" Copies of JPL Craft.
