Corporal Round 100
Photograph Number P-19445B
In April 1955 Dr. Pickering travelled to White Sands Proving Ground (now known as White Sands Missile Range), New Mexico, for the 100th launch of a Corporal guided missile. "We finally got up to Round 100, believe it or not, and so when the launching of Round 100 came up, I said, 'Well, look, I've never
done this before, but I'm going to push the launch button.' .... and the thing went east instead of north." [Quote from Dr. Pickering's JPL Stories presentation at the JPL Library in January 2001].
