 Ranger 7 Launch
Dr. Pickering appeared on camera in von Karman Auditorium to talk about the Ranger 7 mission during launch activities on July 28, 1964. Rangers 1 through 6, launched from 1961-1964, had all experienced problems with launch vehicles or instruments, so there was a great sense of anticipation at JPL as everyone waited to hear if Ranger 7 would launch safely and complete its mission.
