Buying BooksBuying Books

The Library is the Control Point for JPLers and JPL organizations wanted to make book purchases, including eBooks, audio books, conference proceedings, CD-ROMs, digital media, etc.  These are typically called “desk copies” and will be labeled as government property.

HOW TO SUBMIT A PURCHASE REQUEST (Desk Copy):

  1. Log into BEACON Express
  2. Verify your Charge Account
    • Under Tools select Change Accounts
    • The Current Accounts section lists Charge Accounts on file. Verify their accuracy. Select Delete if the account is no longer valid.
    • To add a Charge Account, fill out both lines. Changes to accounts will only be visible on new requests.
  3. Under New Request select Purchase Request
  4. Fill in all fields marked with an asterisk
  5. Change Need By date if necessary
    • Typically books arrive in 2-3 days.
    • Need it quicker? Change the Rush field from Regular to Yes. Additional charges MAY apply
  6. Select a valid Project/Task number.

PURCHASE FAQ:

Q: How long does it take to get a book ordered through the Library?
A: Between 3 days and 2 weeks, depending on availability and customer requirements. Books from our local vendor are delivered within five working days. However, the Library will order from other online sources if delivery is required faster. Extra rush charges may apply.Q: What is the cost to order a book?
A: The Library charges only the material cost. We strive to find the lowest price across multiple vendors. Shipping costs are between $0 and $10.Q: Where do I get updates on my request?
A: You will receive an email confirmation when ordered and when received. If you need to check on an update right away contact Elizabeth Daruthayan at x4-9236
